Don (Soul Train) Campbell – Campbell Lock
Stanson – 509 * Vinyl * USA * 1972
Soul Train dancer Don Campbell did not only develop the Locking Dance style and founded the dance group The Lockers (his girlfriend Toni Basil was in there) he also released a great Funk 45 that I love playing ever since the late 80’s. Listen to that fat back drums.
I was always surprised about the enormous price gap between his release and Ray Frazier & Apple And Thee Oranges ones on the same label since they’re all masterworks and none of ’em were pressed in huge amounts. The recording saw no legal re-release until today.
